چکیده

Abstract—Fly ash (FA) thanks to the significant presence of SiO2 and Al2O3 as the main components is a potential raw material for geopolymers production. Mechanical activation is a method for improving FA reactivity and also the porosity of final mixture; those parameters can be analysed through sorption properties. They have direct impact on the durability of fly ash based geopolymer mortars. In the paper, effect of FA fineness on sorption properties of geopolymers based on sodium silicate, as well as relationship between fly ash fineness and apparent density, compressive and flexural strength of geopolymers are presented. The best results in the evaluated area reached the sample H1, which contents the highest portion of particle under 20μm (100% of GFA). The interdependence of individual tested properties was confirmed for geopolymer mixtures corresponding to those in the cement based mixtures: higher is portion of fine particles < 20μm, higher is strength, density and lower are sorption properties. The compressive strength as well as sorption parameters of the geopolymer can be reasonably controlled by grinding process and also ensured by the higher share of fine particle (to 20μm) in total mass of the material.

Effect of Fly Ash Fineness on the Performance of Cement Mortar

This paper investigates the effect of fineness of fly ash on the performance of cement mortar. Fly ash from thermal plant is used as partial substitute for cement. Fly ash is used as received and also processed by grinding. The study involves four replacement levels of fly ash into cement at 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% for each mix design. Mortar cubes are tested for strength, water absorption and so...

Microstructural Characteristics of Geopolymers Based on Alkali-Activated Fly Ash

Aluminosilicate geopolymers with a high silica molar ratio have been prepared by mixing Croatian coal-ash (ASTM Class F) and sodium silicate solution (water glass, technical grade). The samples were cured at 85 °C for 8 h and 24 h in different experimental conditions. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDS) have been use...

Thermal Behaviour of Metakaolin/Fly Ash Geopolymers with Chamotte Aggregate

Geopolymers are generally appreciated for their good resistance against high temperatures. This paper compares the influence of thermal treatment with temperatures ranging from 200 to 1200 °C on the mechanical properties and microstructure of geopolymers based on two different aluminosilicate precursors, metakaolin and fly ash. Moreover, the paper is also aimed at characterizing the effect of c...

Thermal Resistance Variations of Fly Ash Geopolymers: Foaming Responses

This paper presents a comparative study of the characteristic of unfoamed and foamed geopolymers after exposure to elevated temperatures (200-800 °C). Unfoamed geopolymers were produced with Class F fly ash and sodium hydroxide and liquid sodium silicate. Porous geopolymers were prepared by foaming with hydrogen peroxide. Unfoamed geopolymers possessed excellent strength of 44.2 MPa and degrade...

Fly Ash Porous Material using Geopolymerization Process for High Temperature Exposure

This paper presents the results of a study on the effect of temperature on geopolymers manufactured using pozzolanic materials (fly ash). In this paper, we report on our investigation of the performance of porous geopolymers made with fly ash after exposure to temperatures from 600 °C up to 1000 °C. The research methodology consisted of pozzolanic materials (fly ash) synthesized with a mixture ...
